Seven Stunning Items Have Been Donated For The Art Raffle

October 1, 2011

Featured Artist: Gerald Stinski

Gerald Stinski Onions on Linen
Gerald Stinski is the 2011 Featured Artist for the 40th Annual E. John Robinson Art Auction & Raffle presented by the Mendocino Rotary Club. Born in 1929, Stinski is known for his realism paintings of delicate eggshells and fruits. Critics have described his paintings as a modern day link with the early Dutch masters, earning him a reputation as one of the leading painters of realism, with his art recognized around the globe. His showing of still-life works at a London Gallery (McConnell-Mason) in the mid-eighties garnered excitement and praise, leaving an indelible mark in the work of still-life painting: “If no one were looking, most of us would be tempted to reach out and touch Stinski’s remarkable still life. You want to bend close, feel the apples’ skin and sample their aroma. Stinski’s art is so compelling that we overlook the technique. Brushstrokes that are all but invisible. . . an intricacy of detail transforming simple, everyday objects into jewels and a vision mixing real and surreal with a Dutch master’s sensitivity to light.” Stinski has been collected internationally by such luminaries as Christian deGuigne III, King Hussein of Jordan, Nathan Cummings, Milburn Stone, Ed Nagel, Henry Fonda, Gene Kelly, and Herb Caen. His work is found in museums throughout the world. Stinski generously donated "Onions on Linen" (4.5"x6"), shown at left, for the raffle.

Beneath Konokti by Edward Duarde
‘Beneath Konokti’, Edward Duarde, Oil

Edward Duarde was born in Minnesota, and moved to California after a business and finance career. After working as a freelance commercial artist and illustrator, he then pursued his dream of becoming a plein aire artist—he loves to paint directly from nature so he paints outdoors almost every day. He travels extensively and paints in almost every area of the country, preferring to travel by train, whenever possible. His artwork may be viewed at http://www.wix.com/duarde/edwardduarde

Ark by John and Debbie Turnbull
‘Ark’, John and Debbie Turnbull, Handcarved Wood
John and Debbie Turnbull are folk artists who live in Mendocino. After collecting “Ark things” for many years, John and Debbie sensed a lack of high quality, handcrafted Noah’s Arks. They developed their vision of these wonderful “Victorian Sunday toys”. The response from collectors worldwide is overwhelming. The Arks are shown in Galleries all over the country and at Highlight Gallery on Main Street in Mendocino.
