Community and International Service Projects Supported
by the

Presented by the Mendocino Rotary Club

The Mendocino Rotary Club supports local students and organizations as well as provides support to important international projects. Some of the projects we have funded in 2011 are described below:
 
 
Otsuchi Earthquake Relief--Mendocino Rotary contributed  $3000 toward earthquake relief efforts in Fort Bragg's sister city, Otsuchi (http://www.otsuchi.org/)
Mendocino Rotary awarded $10,250 in scholarships to Mendocino High School students based on academic work, school activities, community activities, financial need and other factors

MENDOCINO HIGH 
SCHOOL
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Scholarships were awarded to two Mendocino High School students.
Dictionaries were given to every third grader in the Mendocino School District which includes Albion, Elk and Comptche. This Macmillan dictionary has 35,000 entries, pictures of the presidents, & maps of the world.
Rotarians provided assistance and guidance to the Mendocino High School Interact Club, mentoring in club administration, meeting procedures,and fund raising for the Interact Club.
Rainbow Preschool received $275 for a teeter totter for their playground.
Comptche Community Center received $648  to purchase a heavy ADA exterior door for their Community Center.
Mendocino Music Festival received $1250 for a mid tent baffle to contain sound in performances by small groups.
Project Sanctuary received $881 for a book case and 20 books staff felt were needed to inspire clients to keep their faith.
Mendocino Writers Conference  received $250 for a sound system for literary readings.
Mendocino Art Center received $1000 for a program which brings highschool  students to the Art Center for hands on art training.
Mendocino Recreation Center $1055 to purchase sports equipment.
Friends of Hospice received $1341 to purchase a laptop and special software to document patients’ needs in medical notations.
Woodlands Wildlife received $600 to obtain demonstration materials to teach environmental education to third graders.
Fort Bragg Senior Center received an emergency $1500 to replace their broken ice machine.
The Mendocino Rotary Club has an outbound Exchange Student for 2011/2012, and already has supported this student with approximately $1000. The club is currently in the process of obtaining host family commitments in support of our 2011/2012 inbound Exchange Student.
RYE
Festival of Brotherhood : We provided $3,500 in 2010/2011 for the Guadalajara School for Deaf and Blind Students, Hearing aids/hearing aid transmitters,  Compostela clean water systems,  Tecuala equipment for special needs children, and Tecuala equipment for home for the aged.
World Wide Disaster Relief $2000 purchased 2 Shelter Boxes for distribution by the Shelter Box Organization to areas in the world that experience great tragedy.
Festival of Brotherhood
The Mendocino Rotary Club in cooperation with the Fort Bragg Rotary Club hosted the Rotary International Group Study Exchange Team from Japan in April 2011, providing tours of our area and the opportunity to visit business and professionals working on the coast
